Thurston families are invited to attend our 4th annual French Film Festival.  This will take place in the Thurston gym from 6:30 to 9:30.  The featured film is “L’Avion” (The Airplane).

Progress reports were mailed on October 30th.  Please contact your child’s individual teachers for questions or concerns.  If you would like to formulate individual learning plan goals with me, please send an email and I will be happy to meet with both you and your GATE child. 

Remember, the report mailed was not a report card, but just communication of your child’s progress. 

Students that are interested in reading Charles’ Dicken’s classic, A Christmas Carol, should see Mrs. Cochren to receive a copy of the novella.  We will read the book independently but pick a date to discuss the plot and theme. 

We will pick an afterschool or weekend date to attend the new Disney version featuring Jim Carey.  This will be a fun evening at Irvine Spectrum!

Approximately 10 GATE students are involved in the fall session of The My Hero Project.  The group meets after school on Tuesdays in Mr. Crisp’s computer lab.  A few spots still remain for this session!  If interested, please email acochren@lbusd.org.

Several classes of TMS students were treated to a complimentary preview of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on Friday, November 6th during their period 4 class.  Mr. Mark Dressler provided this experience and showcased the remarkable talents of his high school casts! It was great seeing so many of our past TMS students!

Approximately 80 students attended an October 26th field trip to Muzeo in Anaheim.  Students learned more about Napoleon Bonaparte and saw many of his personal items such as his hat, sword, travel tent, maps, and even a piece of his coffin!  Thank you to Madame Beckley who coordinated the trip and invited not only her French classes, but also the sixth grade foreign language class.  She provided instruction to both groups prior to the trip on Napoleon’s life and accomplishments which allowed all students to better understand and enjoy the exhibit!  A special thanks to our parent chaperones as well!

Seventh grade GATE student, Aviva, has won a free trip to France through the NETC organization for her creative, informative lesson plan submission in the nationwide contest!  Madame Beckley informed students of this competition, and she encouraged her students to compete.

Way to go, Aviva!

French Club students are meeting on Friday, November 6th to compete in this cool contest hosted by our French teacher, Madame Beckley!  Madame Beckley provides many great opportunities for her students with her novel ideas.
